Staircase Productions was recently established by Australian director/producer Hattie Archibald. On establishing Staircase, Hattie wrote:
“The name has two meanings. First and foremost, it's named after the mountain up behind the place where I grew up in Gundy NSW at the junction of the lands of the Gamillaroi, Wonnarua and Geawegal peoples. I understand this area to have been home to a bora ground where different people gathered and exchanged stories for many many centuries.
The second meaning is rooted in the idea of what it means to work in the creative and film industries, especially as a woman; that in order to smash through glass ceilings and other barriers there is a simple solution which many women and people from a range of underrepresented backgrounds have been taking for years: they take the stairs. They work methodically and consistently until they eventually get to wherever it is that they are angling. I have much to learn from everyone who has taken this road previously, and understand how privileged I am to be able to attempt this journey.”
Staircase has a number of projects in development in partnership with other production companies.
